Redesigns when applying

There are some test that go around when trying to apply for a job. It is interesting to try and get a small pick of what they do and how every company may be doing it.

I entered the Figma file, to find myself in there with the rest of the designers trying to apply for the same job. I noticed who asked for things that were clearly in the instructions, and noticed who was there at 1am as well as me. We get to work for some more hours, after our regular jobs, to try and do our best with the idea of hopefully getting something in return.

Is a simple nightmare, you get little to none information, you can’t defend your design, and as a UX designer, I have so many questions, please just tell me…what is happening today with your stats? anything? who are we trying to reach?

Usually my approach is to find the original page, do some research about the business, look through what the assignment is, and do my best with the design rules I know about. Rules that I learned to break when time is due. But, when do we say, «this is enough for a job they are not paying me to do»?, while also hoping that you are doing enough, so they notice you from others.

Given that sometimes you don’t get the job, I present to you, the redesign I worked on:

First let’s get a Before view:

You may get a better view of the page here: https://thewessexmint.com/en-int

And here is the web redesign:

And the mobile view:
